You could have a new Owner’s Duplicate Certificate issued in replacement of the lost or destroyed copy.
The law dictates that the loss of the Owner’s Duplicate Certificate should be registered with the Register of Deeds of the province or city where the land is located.
However, the Register of Deeds cannot on its own issue a new Owner’s Duplicate Certificate without a Court order. Thus, a verified petition has to be filed with the Court and evidence of the loss has to be presented for this purpose.
Securing a new Owner’s Duplicate Certificate in place of lost or destroyed titles can be very tedious and time consuming. The entire process usually takes six to nine months to complete and requires the owner/petitioner to make representations/appearances before the Register of Deeds and the Court.
Good thing there is a Company with proven expertise in handling problems of this nature and in minimizing the hassle to its clients.
