Petron Corporation (PCOR or Petron) is the largest and only publicly listed oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines. Its history begun as early as 1957 when Esso Standard Eastern, Inc. (ESEI) and Mobil Oil Corporation (MOC) jointly created Standard-Vacuum Refining Corporation (SVRC) to construct and operate a petroleum refinery in the country. In 1962, SVRC changed its name to Bataan Refining Corporation (BRC). Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) purchased the entire equity shareholdings of ESEI, accounting for 57% of BRC in 1973. In the same year, PNOC also acquired the marketing operations of Esso Philippines, Inc., which was later renamed in 1975 to Petrophil Corporation (Petrophil). In 1983, PNOC bought the remaining shares of MOC in BRC, giving PNOC 100% ownership in BRC. Subsequently from 1987 to 1988, PNOC merged Petrophil (marketing), BRC (refinery) and Petron TBA Corporation (tire, batteries and accessories) to form Petron Corporation.
